ERODIUM TRIFOLIUM (aka Erodium hymenodes)

There are several species of Erodium growing as weeds in our area of California. However, there is a cultivated species which grows in a restrained fashion and has flowers with distinctive patterning. This is Erodium trifolium. While many are familiar with Erodium chamaedryoides, E. trifolium is less commonly available on the commercial market. The plant produces a large tuberous root which allows it to survive the dry months. It grows in full sun and produces a slightly upright rosette of bluegreen leaves. It self-seeds so you can easily transplant seedlings to share with friends.
